| Dear Mr. Bahdurai, Thank you for contacting me to express your concerns about the situation in Sudan. As a man of faith, I believe the United States should engage with the world in a way that reflects our values. I believe that we must balance diplomatic engagement, development aid, and the use of military force—always working to engage peacefully first. I support a robust international affairs budget and efforts by the United States and the international community to promote human rights, protect democratic values, and work toward long-term peace and stability. On April 15, 2023, conflict broke out between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). This conflict has led many Sudanese nationals, Sudanese Americans, and others living in Sudan to flee their homes for safety and security. While I support the State Department’s efforts to negotiate ceasefires, I also acknowledge that more needs to be done to assist American citizens living in Sudan and refugees as they seek safety from this conflict. Please know that I remain committed to supporting peace and security in Sudan, while also supporting robust humanitarian assistance to provide for the needs of the people of Sudan. I pray for all of the victims of this conflict, including those in Georgia who may be directly affected by it. I will keep your views in mind when considering any legislation related to Sudan. If you or a loved one needs assistance with an immigration case from Sudan, please feel free to reach out to my casework team at 770-694-7828. Thank you again for contacting me. Please do not hesitate to do so again in the future if I may be of assistance to you or your family. Sincerely, Reverend Raphael Warnock United States Senator |
